Our Story
Finding Joy in the Journey
At Journey School Lynnwood, we believe childhood is a time of wonder, discovery, connection, and growth.
We know that the experiences children have in their earliest years help shape how they see themselves, relate to others, and engage with the world around them. That is why we are committed to creating an environment where children feel safe, valued, capable, and inspired to learn.
Journey School Lynnwood was founded on the belief that children learn best through meaningful relationships, hands-on experiences, and joyful exploration. Over the years, that vision has continued to evolve and deepen, shaped by advances in child development research, the experiences of our families and educators, and our commitment to providing exceptional early learning experiences.
Today, our program is guided by four foundational pillars:
Nature-Based Learning,
Reggio Emilia Inspired Approach
Conscious Discipline
Community & Belonging
We believe children are naturally curious, capable, and full of potential. Rather than asking children to fit into a predetermined mold, we strive to create environments and experiences that honor their individuality, encourage their questions, and nurture their unique strengths.
Our beautiful 2-acre campus serves as an extension of the classroom, providing opportunities for exploration, creativity, risk-taking, problem-solving, and connection with the natural world. Through meaningful experiences both indoors and outdoors, children develop confidence, resilience, empathy, and a lifelong love of learning.
At Journey, education is about more than preparing children for the next grade level. It is about helping them develop the life skills and tools needed to thrive throughout their lives. We want children to leave Journey with a strong sense of self, meaningful connections to others, confidence in their abilities, and a deep appreciation for the world around them.
Just as importantly, we believe learning happens within the context of community. We value strong partnerships with families and strive to create a school culture where children, parents, and educators feel connected, supported, and inspired.
Our work is guided by the values of Wonder, Connection, Belonging, Curiosity, Confidence, Compassion, Joy, Growth, Resilience, and Stewardship. These values shape not only what we teach, but how we learn, lead, and build community together.
Because childhood is not simply preparation for the future—it is a meaningful journey in itself.
And we are honored to be part of it.

Looking Foward
Our goal is not simply to prepare children for elementary school. We aim to help children develop the confidence, curiosity, resilience, and compassion that will serve them throughout their lives.
We are committed to creating a community where children, families, and educators can learn, grow, and find joy in the journey together.
What We Believe

At Journey School Lynnwood, our work begins with a simple belief: children are capable, curious, and deserving of respect.
We believe childhood is not merely preparation for the future—it is a meaningful and valuable stage of life in its own right. Children deserve opportunities to explore, create, connect, and experience the joy of learning each day.
We Believe Children Are Capable
Children are naturally curious and motivated to learn. They are active participants in their own growth and development, capable of asking thoughtful questions, solving problems, building relationships, and contributing to their communities.
Our role is not to fill children with knowledge, but to create environments, experiences, and relationships that help them discover their own potential.
We Believe Relationships Matter
Learning happens within the context of relationships.
Children thrive when they feel safe, connected, seen, and valued. Strong relationships with educators, peers, and families provide the foundation for confidence, resilience, emotional well-being, and lifelong learning.
We prioritize connection because we know belonging is essential for growth.
We Believe Learning Should Be Joyful
Children learn best through hands-on experiences, meaningful play, exploration, and discovery.
Wonder, curiosity, creativity, and imagination are not extras—they are essential parts of the learning process. We strive to create environments that inspire children to ask questions, take risks, and engage deeply with the world around them.
We Believe Nature Is a Powerful Teacher
The natural world offers endless opportunities for exploration, problem-solving, creativity, and growth.
Through daily experiences outdoors, children develop confidence, resilience, stewardship, and a deeper connection to the world around them. Nature invites children to move, wonder, collaborate, and learn in ways that cannot be replicated within four walls alone.
We Believe Social and Emotional Development Matters
Academic learning and social-emotional development go hand in hand.
Children who can identify emotions, regulate their responses, solve conflicts, show empathy, and build healthy relationships are better prepared to navigate challenges both in school and throughout life.
We believe these skills are among the most important outcomes of education.
We Believe Community Strengthens Us All
Children thrive when families, educators, and communities work together.
We value partnership, inclusion, and belonging. We strive to create a welcoming community where every child and family feels respected, supported, and connected.
Together, we create an environment where children can flourish.
We Believe in Finding Joy in the Journey
Growth is not a race. Childhood is not a checklist.
Learning unfolds through relationships, experiences, challenges, successes, and moments of discovery. We believe there is joy to be found in the process of becoming—and we are honored to walk alongside children and families on that journey.
Our Values

Our values guide how we teach, lead, build relationships, and create community. They shape the experiences we provide for children and the culture we cultivate for families and educators.
Wonder & Curiosity
Wonder. Curiosity. Joy.
We believe children are natural explorers. They learn through asking questions, investigating their world, experimenting, creating, and discovering. We nurture a love of learning by providing meaningful experiences that inspire children to wonder, imagine, and engage deeply with the world around them.
When children are free to explore, learning becomes joyful.
Connection & Belonging
Connection. Belonging. Compassion.
Strong relationships are at the heart of everything we do. We believe children thrive when they feel seen, valued, respected, and connected to the people around them.
We foster a culture of kindness, empathy, inclusion, and partnership where children, families, and educators work together to create a supportive and caring community.
Every child deserves to know they belong.
Growth & Stewardship
Confidence. Growth. Resilience. Stewardship.
We believe children are capable of remarkable things. Through challenge, exploration, problem-solving, and reflection, they develop confidence in their abilities and resilience in the face of obstacles.
As a nature-based school, we also believe children have a responsibility to care for the world around them. We encourage respect for people, places, and the environment while helping children understand that their actions can positively impact their communities and the natural world.
We are preparing children not only for school, but for life.
